X365TV: Jimoh Ibrahim loses at Supreme Court

SPONSORED BY X365TV.COM: The Supreme Court on Thursday referred back to the Court of Appeal, Abuja, all pending cases relating to the dispute over the leadership tussle between the Ali Modu Sheriff an‎d Ahmed Makarfi factions of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The appeals which the apex court referred back to the Court of Appeal have to do with questions bordering on which of the factions of the party ‎has the authority to instruct lawyers to represent the party in a pending case before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The five-man panel of the ape‎x court led by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onoghen, also, in a separate unanimous ruling, struck out all pending appeals relating to the candidacy of the PDP for the Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.

Justice Onnoghen, who read the lead ruling, held that the pending appeals before the apex court had become academic in view of the judgment of the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led panel of the Court of Appeal, Abuja delivered on Wednesday, reinstating Eyitayo Jegede as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the Ondo State election.

The Acting CJN informed parties to the appeals on Thursday that the apex court was not ready to hear the cases piecemeal.

He directed that the appellants should  raise the issues in their interlocutory  appea‎ls in when they file substantive appeals which they wish to file against the  Court of Appeal’s judgment delivered on Thursday.

The appellants led by Biyi Poroye are the state executives of the Sheriff faction of the party in the various states in the South-West zone, are backing Jimoh Ibrahim, who was only removed and replaced with Jegede as the party’s governorship candidate in Ondo State by the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Abuja on Wednesday.

The appellants’ lawyer, Mr. Beluolisa Nwofor (SAN), told the apex court on Thursday that he had not been able to file an appeal against the Wednesday’s judgment of the Court of Appeal because copies of the judgment had not been ready.

SPONSORED BY 656.COM: The House of Representatives has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the most corrupt Nigerian to have held a public office, deploring his tactic of always seeing himself as the only clean human being.

It made a formal reaction on Thursday to the ex-President’s latest attacks on the National Assembly, saying that he churned out “outright lies and falsehoods, and mischievous innuendo.”

On Wednesday, Obasanjo had attacked the legislature on several fronts, including their salaries/allowances and the alleged diversion of constituency projects.

He had stated, “Once you are a member, you are co-opted and your mouth is stuffed with rottenness and corruption that you cannot opt out as you go home with not less than N15million in a month for a senator and N10m a month for a member of the House of Representatives. The National Assembly is a den of corruption by a gang of unarmed robbers.’’

The former President spoke further, “If the judiciary is being cleaned, what of the National Assembly, which stinks much worse than the judiciary? Budget padding must not go unpunished.

“It is a reality, which is a regular and systemic practice. Nobody should pull wool over the eyes of Nigerians. Ganging up to intimidate and threaten the life of a whistle-blower is deplorable and undemocratic.’’

But, speaking through its Chairman, Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, the House said Obasanjo first introduced corruption to the legislature in 1999 when he felt he must bribe legislators to have his way on every issue.

It added that a reason he would never like members of the National Assembly was the fact that they foiled his third term ambition in 2007 after taking his money and displayed it publicly to put him to shame.

On corruption, Namdas noted, “Undoubtedly, former President Obasanjo is understandably angry with the National Assembly as an institution, having foiled his ambition for a third-term in office even after trying to corrupt the members with a bribe of at least N50m each.

“Lest we forget, the person who introduced corruption to the National Assembly is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He birthed the 4th Republic National Assembly with corrupt practices from day one; indeed the first day of the Republic.

“He bribed both PDP, ANPP and AD legislators on their inauguration in 1999 to vote against the majority candidate of PDP, (the late) Dr. Chuba Okadigbo. That was how Senator Evans Enwerem became the Senate President.

“Have we forgotten the sacks of money displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives, being bribe money paid by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to some honourable members to impeach the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ghali N’abba?

“Have we forgotten that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo used his position as President to extort money from businessmen and contractors with his government to build his presidential library?

SPONSORED BY HIRING234.COM: The Independent National Electoral Commission (lNEC) has replaced the name of Mr Jimoh Ibrahim with that of Mr Eyitayo Jegede as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ondo governorship election, scheduled for Saturday.

A statement signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mr Agusta Ogakwu, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja.

The INEC’s decision is in line with the judgment of the Appeal Court which ordered it to replace Ibrahim’s name with Jegede as PDP candidate for Saturday’s election.

The Court of Appeal panel, led by Justice Ibrahim Salauwa, on Tuesday, set aside the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court recognising Jimoh Ibrahim as PDP candidate in the Ondo gubernatorial poll.

Ogakwu said that the decision of the Commission was in compliance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal over the party’s candidate tussle for Ondo governorship election.

“It will be recalled that in compliance with the Order given by the Federal High Court Abuja Division on Oct. 14 (re-affirmed on Oct. 27), the commission recognised Ibrahim as the PDP candidate for the governorship election.

“However, with today‘s judgment by the Court of Appeal, the commission hereby replaces it with Mr Jegede as the candidate of the PDP for the said election,” Ogakwu said.

She urged the people of Ondo to come out and exercise their franchise on Nov. 26, in a peaceful manner .

“All the political parties and their candidates participating in the election are also enjoined to play by the rules and cooperate with INEC to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.”

In apparent defiance of an Appeal Court ruling that set aside the Justice Abang judgement that ordered INEC to publish Jimoh Ibrahim’s name as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for the November 26 election in Ondo State, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim has vowed to continue with his campaign.

The three-man panel of the appeal court led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, in a unanimous judgment delivered on Wednesday held that Justice Abang acted without jurisdiction when he made orders against those that were not parties ‎before him.

The appeal court also nullified the primary said to have been conducted by the Biyi Poroye-led state executive of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party which produced Ibrahim as the governorship candidate of the party in the state.
According to a report by reports, the candidate of the Modu Sheriff faction of the PDP, Ibrahim, dismissed the ruling, saying “the judgment is very vague; it is nebulous and ambiguous.”
He added, “The court did not make a consequential order asking INEC to remove my name; so nobody can remove my name from the ballot. The judgment is very vague; it is nebulous and ambiguous. INEC cannot dare to remove my name.
“INEC will pay billions of naira in damages if it dares to do that. What will it be acting on? There is no consequential order. The order is empty; it’s an empty voyage of discovery!
“I’m continuing my campaign. Nobody can stop me.
“Yes. I’ll invite you to the victory party on Sunday, after the election.”

BUY656: Arsenal frustrated by PSG in 2-2 draw

SPONSORED BY BUY656.COM: Arsenal face a struggle to finish top of their Champions League group after they were held to a draw by Paris St-Germain at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were seeking the win that would put them in pole position in Group A after years of finishing second and six eliminations in the last 16 in the knockout phase.

And it looked like Arsenal were on their way despite going behind early on to Edinson Cavani’s sliding finish from Blaise Matuidi’s cross.

Olivier Giroud scored from a penalty right on half-time after Grzegorz Krychowiak fouled Alexis Sanchez. And Arsenal were ahead on the hour when a penalty-box rebound struck Marco Verratti and flew in.

PSG were always dangerous and Lucas’ header, which took a touch off Alex Iwobi, gave them a fully deserved equaliser 13 minutes from time.

Cavani then missed two good chances and although Arsenal and PSG are level on points, the French champions have the advantage on head-to-head away goals with one round of games left after a 1-1 draw between the teams in Paris earlier in the group.

Arsenal’s inability to top their Champions League group has cost them dearly as they have failed to get past the last 16 in the past six years – and they now face the same fate again.

The odds now seem stacked in favour of Unai Emery’s side, but the side that finishes top could yet end up facing the likes of Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

“I believe we have the quality and the spirit on the bench now” – Arsene Wenger

PSG face Ludogorets at home in their final game, the side Arsenal beat 6-0 at Emirates Stadium, while Wenger’s side travel to Basel.

There is still an opportunity for late twists but it is starting to look like second again after this enthralling draw.

SPONSORED BY X365RADIO.COM: David Silva’s deft equaliser ensured Manchester City reached the Champions League knockout stage for a fourth consecutive season with a draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.

City trailed when Raffael powered a rising 15-yard drive past Claudio Bravo from a central position.

But Silva slid in at the near post to convert Kevin de Bruyne’s low cross before the break.

City improved after half-time, helped by the dismissal of home skipper Lars Stindl for two yellow cards.

However, the visitors were also reduced to 10 men when Fernandinho was booked for a second time for a needless tug on Raffael’s shirt inside the Monchengladbach half.

Despite more space for both sides to exploit, the game failed to open up in the final half-hour.

But the point, coupled with Celtic’s home defeat by leaders Barcelona, clinches second place in Group C for Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Blues cannot catch the Spanish champions, who are four points clear with one round of matches to play.

SPONSORED BY X365TV.COM: Celtic were eliminated from European competition as Barcelona won to secure top spot in Champions League Group C.

Lionel Messi struck the opener from Neymar’s sumptuous pass, and only a stunning Craig Gordon save prevented Luis Suarez from heading home a second.

Moussa Dembele spurned Celtic’s best chance before Messi scored a penalty.

Though Celtic can still draw level on points with Borussia Monchengladbach in third, the German side have a superior head-to-head record.

Brendan Rodgers’ side remain on two points, having lost twice to Barca – who opened the group stage with a 7-0 win over Celtic – and at home to Gladbach.

The Scottish champions, who came through two rounds of qualifiers and a play-off to reach the group stage, visit Manchester City on 6 December, when Barcelona host the German side.

City and Barca have qualified for the last 16, with Gladbach dropping into the Europa League in the New Year.

Rodgers said his team learned all the bitter lessons from the annihilation in Barcelona, and it showed in the early minutes.

Celtic were focused and aggressive. Scott Brown dumped Sergio Busquets on the floor to the roars of the home crowd and there was an aggression about their work that suggested there would be no repeat of the embarrassment of the Nou Camp.

Class won out, though. Barcelona’s threat grew as the opening half wore on. Ivan Rakitic and Andre Gomes went close before the breakthrough came, a familiar act of ruthlessness from two of the planet’s most unforgiving talents.

Barcelona scored their first goal courtesy of a classic piece of telepathy between Neymar and Messi. Celtic did not seem to be in much danger mere seconds before the ball was in their net. They had nine defenders behind the ball and, seemingly, everything under control.

When Neymar took possession on the left their problems began. Nobody pressed him quickly enough. The Brazilian had time to take a look and size up the situation. What he saw was four Celtic defenders waiting for his cross, then a corridor of space, then another five Celtic men behind the corridor.

Into the space ran Messi, as he does. At the precise moment he began his run, Neymar dinked in his delivery, a thing of weighted precision that Messi lashed past Gordon at his near post.

It could have got worse for Celtic very quickly. Messi put in a cross from the right just before the break and, from point-blank range, Suarez could not put it home. Gordon made a terrific save to delay the pain.

Suarez was denied by Gordon, but won the penalty that clinched Barcelona’s win
Two pivotal moments

James Forrest came on for the injured Scott Sinclair at the break and it was the winger who created a golden chance of an equaliser. His cross was met by Dembele, but the striker could not get enough power into his header to beat Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It was a big chance, and how Celtic Park groaned in that moment.

Their angst only intensified a few minutes later when Emilio Izaguirre pulled down Suarez and conceded the penalty that Messi converted. It was his fifth goal against Celtic in two Champions League matches this season and his 92nd in the competition overall. Otherworldly.

The rest of it was a procession for Barcelona. Neymar, on a yellow card following a clash with Mikael Lustig, was a bit fortunate not to be sent off before he was taken off, having gone in rashly in a separate challenge on Lustig. The Celtic Park crowd let him have it as he went. Neymar could not have cared less.

One of the last acts was another glaring miss from Suarez from more sumptuous build-up play from Messi. It hardly mattered. Celtic were out of the game, out of the Champions League – and out of Europe.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, confirmed this on Monday while briefing newsmen on some of the command’s successes recorded within two weeks.

Owoseni said the coach allegedly lured the young players to his house under the guise of seeking their assistance in some house chores.

The suspect confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the news briefing.

He said: “I always get fascinated to the boys whenever I remember my wife, because it is not easy staying alone without a woman.

“I always make love to these boys through the front and their anus because whenever I feel sexual urge, I would lure them to assist me with some house chores.

“It is not every time I sleep with some of the boys; sometimes I do romance them just to relieve myself of my feelings for my wife.

“I don’t force the boys to make love with them, after I have pondered on my lifestyle I decided to put a stop to what I am doing.

“I have been making love to some of these boys over a year now but during this period I have lost count of numbers of the boys,” “ he said.

One of the victims, who also spoke with NAN on condition of anonymity, said that the coach had slept with him five times.

“The very first time he made love to me was when I went to assist him to fetch water. I was about to leave his house when he ordered me to lie on his bed that we are about to do some exercise.

“After that incident, he threatened to kill me if I report to anybody about what transpired between us.
